Developing excellent technique is essential when learning the classical style. It requires a solid combination of both right hand and left hand fingering technique. The classical style is a finger style and does not use a plectrum to play. It uses a combination of single note, chords and bass lines to play a complete all rounded piece of music. There is also a significant difference in the type of guitar used. Where as most acoustic guitars have steal strings the classical guitar has nylon strings making them a great instrument for beginners to start on. It can take a few weeks to month before a students fingers develop the strength and dexterity to play proficiently, so starting with a nylon string has benefits for the beginner student.
